Abstract name

8.5x11 marker on paper, elementary school lesson about abstract art, texture, and color

It has been the season for teaching, this time for my son’s 2/3 grade class. There were many cool examples on line, but I ended up creating my own to customize the principles I wanted to include. The kids really got into it and most of them needed more than an hour to finish.

We talked a little about line, shape, abstract art, patterns, texture, warm colors, and cool colors.
And this is the process we took:

If you are an art docent or homeschooling, this lesson was a breeze to clean and set up and here are the slides and instructions.

If you want to start drawing or enjoy doodling, this was a fun process. Give it a try, you probably have all the materials already. Click on the picture to access the instructions.

I encourage you to take an hour for yourself and see if you can recognize your name once you are done.
